England tour: Special cards issued to monitor player’s movements
Members of the Pakistan test team led by Azhar Ali and the T20 squad led by Babar Azam are in England these days. After the first leg of the tour of England, the national team is now in the Derby in the second leg after Worcester. After Worcester, the players in Derby have also been asked to use their washroom in the hotel as opposed to the washroom on the ground.
On the other hand, in a bio-secure environment, the England and Wales Cricket Board has issued a second card for national team players along with a tour accreditation card. Players have been instructed to carry another card attached to them with their accreditation card at all times. According to reports, the purpose of the second card is to monitor the movement of players.
It may be recalled that the Pakistan team is currently in England under extraordinary circumstances where thousands of people have lost their lives due to coronavirus. The England and Wales Cricket Board has invited 29 players and 14 officials of the Pakistan cricket team for the tour. While Dr Sohail Saleem of Pakistan cricket team has declared the tour of England as high risk.
The main purpose of the second card issued to the players for the tour is to monitor the movement of the players so that they do not violate the biosecure environment. It is to be noted that in the second Test against West Indies, England dropped fast bowler Joffra Archer from the team because he went home at the end of the first Test violating the Covid-19 protocol.7
