The tournament is set to begin in the UK this week after a delay due to the Corona global epidemic.
The teams for the 50-over International Cricket World Cup will now be selected through the Super League. The first Super League tournament involving teams from 13 countries kicks off in the UK this week. The first match between defending champions England and Ireland is being played in Southampton on Thursday. The top seven teams in the Super League will qualify for the 2023 World Cup, while the eighth team will be hosts India.
What is a Super League?
Under the previous qualifying system, the teams that qualify for the ODI Cricket World Cup are in the top eight positions in the International Cricket Council (ICC) world rankings. The winners of two qualifying tournaments in the previous World Cup held in England were also given a place in the World Cup and thus a total of 10 teams participated in the ICC World Cup.
The Dutch team, including 12 full members of the ICC, will compete in the Super League. Each team will play four series of three matches at home and four series abroad. In case of success, the team will get ten points. But if the match remains the same, only five points will be awarded. In case of losing the match, the said team will not get any points.
According to ICC General Manager Jeff Allards, the Super League will have an impact on the game of cricket over the next three years and will attract fans.
